Grace Stanke, Miss America 2023 was recently named the “new face of nuclear energy,” by The Wall Street Journal, signifying a significant shift toward a new generation of voices in the representation and advocacy for clean and sustainable energy sources. Stanke, crowned Miss America 2023 in December 2022, and a nuclear engineering student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, is leading a conversation in the way American's perceive and embrace nuclear energy. As Miss America, Stanke has demonstrated her dedication to environmental causes and her commitment to a greener, more sustainable future. “It’s the industry that saved my dad twice from cancer,” Stanke said, referring to radiation and other treatments. “It powers 20% of America.” Throughout the past year, Stanke has been traveling the world advocating for “Clean Energy, Cleaner Future” where she is participating in educational campaigns and conferences, speaking engagements, and collaborative initiatives aimed at promoting a clean energy future. Her world tour concludes later this year with a tour of nuclear facilities in Japan, as well as the WNE in Paris and COP 28 in Dubai. “In addition to helping change public perception of nuclear energy and technology, I hope to inspire youth, especially young girls, to explore STEM and to see that a career in these fields, including nuclear engineering, is an option for them.”
